Wade Smith, MD | FAAOS | FACS
Dr. Smith is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in orthopedic trauma, with a primary focus on the care of multiply-injured patients. His expertise includes complex pelvic and acetabular fractures, nonunions, infections, amputations, periarticular and periprosthetic fracture management, and limb deformity correction of upper and lower extremities.
Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency and trauma fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He further advanced his training with specialized fellowships in limb salvage in Lecco, Italy, and Kurgan, Russia.
With a career dedicated to trauma care, Dr. Smith has held leadership roles including Director of Orthopedic Trauma at Geisinger Health System and Director of the Orthopedic Trauma Department at Denver Health Medical Center. He is an active researcher, educator, and mentor, regularly lecturing at national and international conferences. A respected figure in the orthopedic community, he serves on multiple editorial boards and is a participating member of esteemed organizations such as the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.
Dr. Smith has a special interest in minimally invasive fracture fixation and has mentored surgeons in numerous countries as an AO Professor. Renowned for his contributions to research in complex pelvic trauma, he continues to train the next generation of orthopedic trauma surgeons through his one-year fellowship program.
